The name of our chapter is H\u00e1lcones (Hawks) and was founded on November 12<sup>th<\/sup> 2015 by the founder Johanna Santinho. \u00a0The purpose of the Society is to recognize scholarship, fellowship, and service by students of middle schools who are studying Spanish in the classroom, and to promote continuity of interest in Hispanic studies. \u00a0The society is classified as a national and international service and academic society in the study of middle school Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOCIEDAD HISP\u00c1NICA DE AMISTAD<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Cap\u00edtulo Halcones de VRA<br \/>\n<\/strong>(Valley Ridge Academy Chapter)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Student Interested<br \/>\n<\/strong>You are invited to apply to be a member of the Valley Ridge Academy chapter of the Sociedad Honoraria Hisp\u00e1nica, a nationally recognized honor society for Spanish.\u00a0 Before completing the application, please check to make sure you meet the qualifications below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Qualifications to become a member of the Halcones de VRA Chapter of Sociedad Honoraria Hisp\u00e1nica:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>You are currently taking a Spanish class.<\/li>\n<li>You are academically in good standing and maintaining an A in Spanish class.<\/li>\n<li>You uphold the St. John\u2019s district Character Counts and maintain good behavioral status.<\/li>\n<li>You are in the first semester of Spanish 1 (Beginning and Intermediate Middle School Years) and are willing to do at least 15 hours of Spanish-related community service this year (some opportunities will be provided by the sponsors).<\/li>\n<li>You a 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade student enrolled in Exploratory Spanish and have received the recommendation of 3 teachers.<\/li>\n<li>Be available for bi-monthly meetings on Wednesdays.<\/li>\n<li>ISS or OSS are grounds for immediate dismissal from the chapter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Pulsera Service Project<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Pulsera Project buys hand-woven pulseras from Central American artists and then partners with student groups to sell them through U.S. schools.
